When running Access 2000 and newer on a Windows XP laptop, mapped network drives might not be reconnected automatically when Access tries to access the network drive. The result is an Access message that the path is not valid.

The manual workaround is to visit My Computer and double-click on that drive's icon, and then Windows will reconnect that drive.

For an automated workaround, place this statement in the Access startup code. . .

Shell "NET USE X: \\Server\Share", vbHide

. . .where X is the network drive, Server is the server name and Share is the share name.
